You say it’s a sign of devotion, but devotion to whom?

So I’ve already got one of those terrible things known as a Livejournal (eljay dramaz lol) but that’s way too full of personal dribble. I decided to share some less mind-numbing thoughts out in the open.

So the results of the London Mayoral Election are imminent. I think I might cry if Boris Johnson gets in. He’s the MP for Henley-On-Thames, for God’s sake. What kind of inner-city experience is that supposed to be? Anyway, his comments on Islam alone are enough to warrant my opposition. How can someone who has written on Islam as he has possibly think he could represent London? If I take into account the delicate balance in London and other UK cities between Muslims and those monitoring extremist Islamist activity, I just can’t reconcile this with Boris Johnson’s stance against Muslims (Google his Spectator article on Islam in 2005). Also go here, if you want some laughs.

I think that, despite his mistakes, I will always have a level of respect for Ken Livingstone. Who else would have been able to stand up for the Irish like he did in the 1980s? Who else would have met with Sinn Féin leaders and advocated talks with the IRA as the only way to progress in Northern Ireland? Love him or hate him, it’s undeniable that he’s got backbone.

I should really get down to some actual revision. I’ve been staring blankly at my books for ages.
